Commissioner District 5 Headshot

Darlene Smith is a lifelong Broward County resident whose family traces its roots to South Florida's early settlers. Since 1986, she has owned and operated a consulting business specializing in small business accounting software, financial reporting, and business consulting. Through nearly four decades of experience, she has developed extensive expertise in budgeting, financial reporting, contract management, and helping businesses achieve financial success.

From 2009 to 2017, Darlene served as the Community Liaison during the transformation of two former Palm Aire golf courses into a permanent public open space. Working with residents, community leaders, and the City of Pompano Beach, she helped guide the successful effort that resulted in the City's purchase of the property for a community park. Today, more than 1,200 Palm Aire condominium homes overlook protected lakes and green space that have been permanently preserved from future development.

Darlene has devoted many years to public service and community leadership. She served as President of the PACC4 Board of Directors for 11 years, representing one of the largest condominium associations in Palm Aire. She also served for 10 years on the Pompano Beach Planning and Zoning Board and for three years on the City's Economic Development Council. Her commitment to District 5 includes serving on the NW 31st Avenue Task Force, where she worked to recommend zoning improvements and streetscape enhancements for this important gateway into Pompano Beach.

Darlene and her husband, Dave, have proudly called Pompano Beach home since 2003. They live in Palm Aire, where they enjoy the area's natural beauty, walking trails, and scenic lakes. Together, they share a deep commitment to family, faith, community service, and travel.

As a dedicated community leader, Darlene Smith is committed to delivering thoughtful leadership, practical solutions, and positive results for the residents of Pompano Beach. She believes in leading with integrity, transparency, and accountability while working to build a stronger, more vibrant future for the entire community.
